León to Villar de Mazarife

21km/12mi

It was a cool rainy day as we walked out of the city of León in the dark. We were not able to take many pictures to share with everyone because of the rain. We walked through several open fields of wheat while we navigated around lots of mud. We stayed in Albergue San Antonio de Padua and had a great community dinner with Gazpacho, Paia, bread, wine, water, and pudding. The owner of the Albergue was a former pilgrim who wanted to give back to fellow pilgrims. It was a different Albergue for us because these bunk beds were only about 4 inches apart! In one of the pictures, you can see a man lying on the bunk reading, and my bunk is right next to him!! The mattress was very thin, and the bar under the mattress was hard the back. Needles to say we didn't get much sleep. Lights were out at 9 pm, and when they went out, it was so darn dark we could not see a thing!

“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”
